As of 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017, Hurricane Irma has intensified to sustained winds of 185 mph with a central pressure of 926 mb. The storm is located approximately 230 miles east of St. Kitts and Nevis, moving west at 14 mph. Tropical storm conditions are expected later this evening, with hurricane‑force gusts overnight into Wednesday. Heavy rainfall of 6–12 inches, storm surge of 3–9 feet, and wave heights up to 20 feet are forecast as the system passes dangerously close to the islands.
Residents are urged to remain informed through official updates, secure homes and property, and stock essential supplies such as food, water, and medications.
